Standard eXe Configuration File

The eXe configuration directory contains the exe.conf file that configures eXe for your machine. It also contains an idevices directory that includes custom iDevices created on that machine. The directory also contains log files that can be helpful to software developers in identifying problems.

Default Configuration Directory Location

The location of the configuration directory varies by operating system. Typical locations include:

 * Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\xxxx\Application Data\exe (where xxxx is the user name)
 * Windows Vista: C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\exe
 * Mac OS X: /Users/xxxx/.exe
 * Linux: ~/.exe

Alternate Configuration Directory

By setting the EXECONF environment variable for your operating system before launching eXe, you can choose an alternative configuration directory. This provides flexibility in maintaining multiple eXe configurations on a single machine. The EXECONF variable should contain the complete path to your alternate configuration directory. In most cases you will want to copy the standard configuration directory and then customize that copy so that all of the standard files/directories are available.

Controlling eXe with the exe.conf file

The exe.conf file in the eXe configuration directory allows controlling what directories it uses for its templates. It also permits hiding some iDevices from appearing in the iDevice pane.
